Propeller teamed up with Love, Tito's, the philanthropic arm of Tito's Handmade Vodka, to send one lucky winner and a friend to this year's Forecastle Festival in Louisville, KY as VIPs.
Nicki from Ohio was the winner, and not only did she go to Forecastle to catch Maggie Rogers, Anderson .Paak & The Free Nationals, Portugal. The Man, The Killers and many more, but she also got to hang out with Judah & The Lion aboard the Mary M Miller Steamboat Yacht Club!
After the experience ended, we caught up with her to hear all about her time at Forecastle. Here's what she had to say...
Propeller: What type of actions did you complete to earn points towards winning?
Nicki: To earn points, I watched videos, signed petitions, joined email lists, and donated through the Propeller website. I also completed the actions specific to the experience.
I volunteered for a few hours at a local food bank helping them unload and organize their new shipment of food and personal care items. I also helped clean up my local park/public space. I took my nephews on a walk to the park where we picked up trash. We also walked around town and picked up trash on the sidewalks. It was a great learning experience for my nephews. We all became aware of the importance of cleaning our environment.
Propeller: What was the highlight of your time at Forecastle?
Nicki: The highlight of the festival was meeting Judah & the Lion and watching their amazing set from a great spot in the VIP section as well as seeing The Band CAMINO perform. They are two of my favorite bands, and they both had great sets which I was able to see from right up front.
It was a super hot weekend, but it was definitely worth it! We were also able to catch sets from some other great artists we love, like Johnnyswim, Anderson East, and Midland.
Propeller: What was it like meeting Judah & the Lion?
Nicki: Meeting Judah & the Lion was great! We were escorted onto the festival grounds before they opened and were taken aboard the Mary M. Miller steamboat where we met the band. They were so kind and humble. We were able to talk for a couple minutes, and I told them about my volunteering experiences through Propeller that helped me win. We took some pictures and talked a little more before heading out into the festival which was then open. It was a really cool experience and so nice to see how great the guys of Judah & the Lion truly are.
Propeller: Which causes on Propeller are important to you and why?
Nicki: There are so many great causes on Propeller, but one of my favorites is Musicians on Call. Judah & the Lion is one of their many artist partners. Some of my other all-time favorites are partners as well - Jason Mraz, John Mayer, and Gavin DeGraw. I think they do great work. Musicians on Call brings artists into hospitals to perform for patients. I believe music is very powerful. It can bring people together, change our attitudes, and evoke emotions, and I believe in the healing power of music.
Propeller: Is there anything we could have done to improve your experience?
Nicki: No. We had a great time in Louisville and at Forecastle Festival. It was nice to have Brandon from Propeller there and available to assist us and answer any questions we had. We are thankful to Propeller for this great opportunity and experience.
Thanks to everyone who took part in the campaign! You can donate to the Forecastle Foundation here
