In US news and current events today, Senator Kamala Harris and Senator Cory Booker have introduced the Justice and Policing Act, a sweeping police reform act to hopefully curb the outbreak of police racism, police violence, and police brutality.

The police killing of George Floyd has sparked George Floyd protests and Black Lives Matter protests around the world, shining a new light on the horrors of systemic police racism and police brutality. Senators Harris and Booker and their colleagues have created a bill with the hopes to demilitarize the police, ensure deescalation training, ensure transparency, and other important reforms. While it doesn't go as far as the defund the police or abolish the police, it's an important step to ensuring justice for all. Only time will tell if Mitch McConnell will allow the be to be voted on, or whether President Donald Trump will veto it. Still, despite the best efforts of President Trump, it's clear that policing in America needs to change.
