Linkin Park's nonprofit, Music For Relief, developed the Power The World Campaign as a pledge to the UN Secretary-General to provide sustainable energy for all.
As a part of the campaign, Linkin Park partnered with Propeller to give away an experience to Hang with Linkin Park at Their Headquarters. Here's what winner Kellen List from San Antonio, TX had to say about the trip.
Propeller: Tell us about your experience on Propeller. What did you do to win?
Kellen List: I first heard about Propeller and the Linkin Park experience back in August 2016 while browsing on Facebook and I just happened to come across the ad for the LP event through my newsfeed. It caught my attention right away. During the next couple months, I ending up donating $2,285 to Music for Relief through Propeller, and sure enough, in early October, I found out that I won!
Propeller: What was the most memorable part of this experience for you?
Kellen List: Meeting Linkin Park was definitely the highlight of the whole experience. They have always been idols of mine ever since I first heard them as a little kid, with the first song I heard by them being “In the End.” Ever since then, I have always followed them and appreciated every album they produced. What also stands out is that before winning the experience, I had dreams where I met the members, in other words this was a literal dream come true!
Propeller: How was meeting Linkin Park in person? What were they like?
Kellen List: Meeting LP was phenomenal. I can’t describe the exuberance I had; it was just so exciting and also very rewarding. I couldn’t sit still because I was just so ecstatic. Linkin Park were some of the most respectful, down to earth people that I have ever met. They all were very appreciative of my friend and I being at their studio. I also remember telling Chester that I was so happy to be there and then he told me that he was very happy to have us there as well. They made us feel very welcome. All of the production team that was present in the studio was also very kind and welcoming.
Propeller: What were some of the places you went to together? Which was your favorite?
Kellen List: My friend and I were taken to Blue Bottle Coffee, which had some amazing waffles! We were also taken to Mr. Hahn’s favorite comic book shop called Meltdown Comics. We were also shown around Venice Beach. My favorite spot had to have been Meltdown Comics because I am a big nerd and reader of graphic novels, so this place was totally up my alley. Venice Beach was also great since that’s where Mike’s Fort Minor music video for “Welcome” was shot there.
Propeller: What else did you do when you were with LP?
Kellen List: My friend and I got to watch LP and Kiiara perform their new single “Heavy” right in there studio, in which we were the first fans to ever see them perform that song live! LP also played a piano version of “Crawling” and “Burn it Down.”
Something else that really stood out to me was when Chester said how much he and the rest of the members of LP appreciate their fans. It made my friend and I feel even more appreciated and honored to be there. It also just makes me respect the band even more.
Propeller: Why was this cause in particular important to you?
Kellen List: Donating to Music for Relief is my way of giving back to the world. It makes me feel amazing knowing that I’m contributing to a great cause for people who have lost so much. I often remind myself that if I was in a similar situation, I would want the same assistance. So this is my way of showing my care for the people who need and deserve it, and also to show that there is always hope for those in need of a helping hand.
Propeller: Anything else you’d like to add?
Kellen List: While my friend and I were watching LP perform their songs live in their studio, my friend and I showed some cheerful gestures after they performed their songs. Chester noticed this and he acknowledged us by giving us a respectful bow. This made us feel much appreciated.
The Saw movies are my favorite movies ever and Chester starred in Saw 7 as one of the victims. I told him how much I loved his performance in Saw 7 and also how much his character was just like him performing on stage with all his screaming. He laughed and seemed to appreciate it a lot. I also asked him if he could talk to the producers of the series and try to get me a role in any future Saw films. This was amazing to be able to talk to him about this.
I also would love to thank Linkin Park, their team, everyone involved with Music for Relief and Propeller for making this experience possible. I couldn’t have done it without you. You all are amazing and you all have my upmost respect. I appreciate every one of you. Thank you!
