The new Taliban regime in Afghanistan — and its strict interpretation of Sharia law — has raised international concerns regarding the safety of vulnerable populations, particularly women, religious and ethnic minorities, LGBTQI Afghans as well as Americans and foreign nationals who remain in the country.
LGBTQI Afghans are living in fear for their lives. Many have gone into hiding and others are trying to flee the country. The Human Rights Campaign and partner advocacy organizations are launching a 10-point action plan calling on the Biden Administration to expedite and ease the refugee and asylum process for LGBTQI Afghans, and we need your support to do it.
This 10-point action plan WILL save lives — and send a strong message to the Administration that American leadership matters, and that as a nation, we must commit to human rights and to the safety and protection of vulnerable Afghan refugees.
Will you sign on to the statement and urge President Biden to take action now?
Time is of the essence and we plan to deliver your name along with thousands of other equality supporters to the White House to advocate for the LGBTQI Afghan refugees whose safety is at risk. Learn more from HRC's issue brief and read the 10-point action plan for more information.
