The Biden Administration has approved a massive new illegal oil drilling project in Alaska's Western Arctic that would generate an astounding 277 million metric tons of climate-busting carbon pollution.
The Willow Project will be a disaster for our climate and for critical Arctic wildlife like polar bears, caribou, and migratory birds. It will also be a setback in our transition to a clean energy future, and flies in the face of President Biden's commitment to tackle our climate crisis.
Oil giant ConocoPhillips, which like most oil companies is flush with record profits, pushed for the project, which will generate hundreds of millions of barrels of destructive crude oil. But there is a way to stop this climate bomb. NRDC and our allies are suing the Biden Administration in court to block this illegal oil drilling project.
And we need to keep showing the President that people that care about climate change, our environment, and clean energy are outraged by this decision.
President Biden has been a climate champion, and his administration must not fail to meet the moment when it comes to the critical step of winding down fossil fuel production. His climate legacy is threatened so long as he continues to fail to tackle the unrestrained extraction of fossil fuels.
Tell President Biden and the Interior Department to reverse course and stop the Willow Project.
Dear President Biden and Secretary Haaland:
I'm writing to express my outrage that your administration approved the massive Willow oil drilling project proposed for the Western Arctic region of Alaska.
The Willow Project will release hundreds of millions of tons of climate pollution, and increase our reliance on climate-busting fossil fuels at a time when we should be turning toward clean energy. It flies in the face of your climate promises.
The drilling project will also be a disaster for unique Arctic wildlife like polar bears and caribou.
For the future of our planet and for future generations, it is imperative that you reverse course and stop the Willow oil drilling project. Your administration's climate legacy is at stake.
Thank you.
