Winner Recap: Hang with Duff McKagan in Seattle

Propeller
Jun 24th, 2019

Rich from Texas took his wife and daughter to hang with legendary Guns N' Roses bassist Duff McKagan at his stop during his Tenderness Tour in Seattle!

After the experience, Propeller caught up with Rich to learn about his trip. Here's what he had to say...

Propeller: How did you find out about Duff's Propeller campaign and what actions did you complete to earn points towards winning this experience?

Rich: I found out about Propeller via Duff McKagan's website duffonline.com. To earn points towards winning the experience, I donated to get a couple of memorabilia items, but also donated directly to the following organizations; Change Direction, Seattle's Union Gospel Mission, and To Write Love on her arms.

Propeller: What was the highlight of your time in Seattle?

Rich: Can't give you just 1 highlight! The fact that Seattle is an accepting and inclusive city by way of Pride flags everywhere! The location of our hotel was perfect as we were within walking distance of virtually everything. And if we couldn't walk there directly, then we were able to walk to the monorail or subway station to go to MoPop and Chinatown.

Lastly, the food! We ate at so many amazing restaurants.

Propeller: How was the experience of meeting Duff?

Rich: One of the most amazing experiences of my life.

Duff's personal manager Brian, and the tour manager Harrison were so friendly when they came and took us in to soundcheck. They offered us water or sodas and made us feel at home and comfortable. Then Brian took us back and introduced us by name to Duff.

In our daughter's words: "It felt like you could talk to him about anything. You forgot he was a famous musician, he is one cool dude, who's a dad."

As a dad, I can't express how touching and amazing it was to watch Duff tell my daughter his story of seeing The Clash when he was her age, and detailing for her how that night changed his life. This was even more special since we met Duff on Father's Day.

Meeting Duff is literally on our family bucket list that we keep on our fridge! So being able to thank him for who he is, and tell him of his positive influence meant so much to all of us. Honestly, I could go on and on. He is truly one of a kind.

Propeller: What was the best part of the trip overall?

Rich: The entire trip. From wheels up on Alaska Airlines, to the cab rides to and from the airport, to check in, to everywhere we went, and everyone we met in Seattle.

Propeller: Which nonprofits on Propeller are most important to you and why?

Rich: This is tough, because all of the non-profits involved in this experience are so important. Seeing first hand the number of people homeless in Seattle, it is clear that we all need to do more to help.

To Write Love on Her Arms and Change Direction are equally important as both focus on removing stigma and helping all of us understand each other more, and help each other. I would not have known about any of these groups were it not for Propeller.

The folks at Propeller were so accommodating, responsive, and friendly during the whole process. There was never any delay in response, and all our questions were answered.

Thanks to everyone who took part in the campaign!
