Sonja from Denver won a trip to the Big Apple to attend AFROPUNK Brooklyn!

After the experience, we caught up with her to hear all about her trip...

Propeller: How did you find out about Propeller and what type of actions did you complete to earn points towards winning this experience?

SONJA: I found out about Propeller through the AFROPUNK Army Instagram. I signed petitions for causes that I support, watched videos to gain knowledge of some causes that I didn't know about and I got all of my friends involved!

Propeller: What was the highlight of your time at AFROPUNK?

SONJA: The highlight of my time at AFROPUNK was the positive energy and all of the super creative outfits.

Propeller: What was your favorite performance and why?

SONJA: My favorite performance was Tierra Whack! Because she brought out my fave - Alicia Keys!

Propeller: Which was your favorite part of your time in New York?

SONJA: The environment was my favorite part! The love and diversity, also it was my first time in NYC so seeing all of the old buildings and the culture. Can't forget the delicious greasy pizza and we had AMAZING jerk chicken.

Propeller: Which non-profits at Propeller are most important to you and why?

SONJA: The most important non-profits at propeller for me are The Color of Change, and The Trevor Project. Being a member of both the African American community and the LGBTQ community, I have witnessed first hand the result of discrimination and intolerance. These causes give me the opportunity to help and support where I can.  

Propeller: Is there anything we could do to improve the experience?

SONJA: I had the time of my life! Not much would have improved the experience, I had a really great time.
