Meghan N. from Washington was the winner of the Propeller experience to "Win a Trip to NYC To See the First Preview of SUFFS on Broadway" that took place in March 2024. Below are some of Meghan's highlights from the experience.
The SUFFS sweepstakes was the best trip in a very long time thanks to Propeller and the Human Rights Campaign. Traveling from the West Coast, we knew we needed to rest up for a very quick and exciting trip.
My guest and I traveled all over NYC as she experienced the city and Broadway for the very first time. We went to Times Square, the Empire State Building, Macy's, Central Park and saw the Women's Rights Pioneers statue, Radio City, Statue of Liberty, Ghostbusters Headquarters, the Fearless Girl,… you name it, we probably visited it.
After these long days filled with fun, our hotel stay at Clubs Quarters Time Square was the perfect place to relax, and it was in a perfect location. It was quiet, easy access, there was a yoga mat to use, plus a water and coffee bar in the lounge for guests.
Having the opportunity to see Suffs The Musical on Broadway was an amazing experience especially during Women's History Month. I wore my "Votes for Women" bow tie as it is important to me, but little did I know that SUFFS would make a huge impression, and is a continual reminder as to why women's rights and equality is important.
First previews on Broadway are special for the entire production from Broadway debuts, showing the power of an all female and non-binary cast, performing their dedicated hard work while giving the audience something worth remembering and fighting for: equality. Sitting in a room of audience members of all ages brought a powerful unity. And I loved waiting for the beautiful vibrant purple curtain to open to see the cast, set, and costumes, and hear the songs for the first time. On our seats, we were gifted sashes that said "I WAS HERE" with the preview date on it, and I bought a window card and pennant saying, "Now is the next time". I can't wait to add the Broadway album to my catalog of music.
We met many people who dressed up for the occasion, they wore white, shared their stories, and we had the best time. After the show was over, the energy in the room was so high, it was shared special experience. We were also grateful to greet the performers after the show and congratulate them as well as thank them for sharing their characters' stories and themselves.
SUFFS is a musical about real public figures, what they went through, and what they did, to get the right to vote and it provides a strong message that we need to "Keep Marching". I am thankful for the progress that has been made by these women before me and the reminder to continue to march for women's rights and equality.
