About University of Houston

The University of Houston has established itself as a bastion of higher education in Houston for 96 years by drawing strength from its 16 colleges and programs to transform lives and communities through education, research, service and innovation. UH is the alma mater of amazing Cougars throughout the world, including the phenomenal musical talent and showstopping performer that was known as Melissa Jefferson as a student, but she is known today as Lizzo.

Lizzo is known for her unwavering commitment to inclusivity and support for minorities. She has made it her priority to create a space where everyone feels seen, heard, and celebrated. Lizzo's advocacy extends beyond her music, as she actively engages in social activism. And now she is looking to give back to the community and the University which celebrates her and where her professional mentorship and training began.

Lizzo is more than just a singer, rapper, and flutist, she has become an influential figure in the music industry with her empowering messages. And for the University of Houston community, she is one of us, she is a Cougar.
