Alex won the trip to LA to meet Troye Sivan at the Boy Erased premiere. Here's what he had to say about the experience and the actions he took on Propeller to win it.
Propeller: What was it like to meet Troye?
Alex: Troye Sivan is a great singer and actor, and has used his platform to advance important causes. It was thrilling to meet Troye on the red carpet at the Boy Erased premier! He was warm and friendly - and funny! - and everything I thought of him as a person through his music was true - this man walks the walk and talks the talk. He really does care about people, society and his fans, and wants to make the world a better place. I was most impressed with how much time he spent speaking about the film, its importance, his career, and listening to our story as well.
Propeller: What actions did you take to win and why are they important to you?
Alex: At this critical time in our country, it's important to support causes the matter to us. This can be through making a donation, volunteering time or by advocating online and through friends and family. I started out supporting The Trevor Project and The Ally Coalition on Propeller and using points earned from donating to enter this contest. I also found other organizations that were important to me on Propeller and set up monthly donation schedules, signed petitions, shared important stories on social media and joined newsletters. These other organizations included Surfrider Foundation, Water is Life, Sierra Club and Animal Care Centers of NYC.
Propeller: What was your favorite part of the experience?
Alex: Troye is a unique artist and his songs have a deep meaning, either for himself personally or for issues he cares about. It was refreshing to meet Troye and immediately get a sense that the words he writes and sings are real and from the heart. He is the real deal. He's deserving of all his successes and gives hope that artists like him can push the needle of change that is needed right now. So my favorite part of this experience was not just meeting Troye, traveling to Los Angeles, going to a premier and seeing him in concert. The best part was feeling really proud of this artist I have followed for a long time and knowing that he's using his fame and following at a young age to do good in the world. We need more Troye's.
Propeller: Anything else you'd like to share?
Alex: Propeller allows people like myself to give back and join important causes, while having the opportunity to be part of a larger community and win amazing experiences. Now, more than ever, it's important to support organizations that are filling a need in our society and to connect with like-minded people who are doing the same. Experience the world!
Thank you to the staff at Propeller for making this trip possible, along with Troye Sivan and his team, and Focus Features.
