Christian S. from Colorado was the winner of the Propeller experience to "Win a Trip To Corona Capital in Mexico City" that took place in November 2024. Below are some of Christian's highlights from the experience.
I have known about Propeller for a few years now and have loved their activism, promotion towards non profit organizations and their goal to make the world a better place. I would follow along and see different rewards and I would donate and sign petitions. Winning would be cool but it was great to just know more about different causes and movements.
Then one reward really stood out to me. The trip to Corona Capital in Mexico City. The lineup was insane with Green Day, Paul McCartney being headliners but also the smaller level acts I love like City and Colour, Explosions in the Sky and The Vaccines. I decided to put all my effort and points towards this reward.
When I got the email saying I had won, I could not believe it. I emailed as quickly as I could and started the process to get everything organized.
Two weeks later, we were on a flight to Mexico City! We landed in the evening and checked into our fabulous hotel. The fest started everyday at 3pm so we wanted to explore the city as much as we could each morning. On the first day we walked around and went to Rosetta Bakery. It was stunning and we had so many different pastries to try. Then we had to walk it off by going to the Angel of Independence and Chapultepec Park. After exploring for a couple hours, it was time to head to the fest.
We Ubered there and getting in was a breeze thanks to the Comfort Passes we received for this fest. Day one we saw the sets from The Beaches, The Vaccines, City and Colour, David Kushner, Clairo, The Mars Volta, Cage the Elephant, Toto, Zedd and Green Day. Needless to say, that was quite the day and so much walking. But it did not deter us from doing the same thing for the next two days.
We would wake up, explore more of the city, then fest it up for all three days. We wanted to take full advantage of this amazing opportunity we had. We did not want to squander a single moment! We wanted to take in the culture and people. We wanted to have all the different snacks, drinks and meals along the way. As well as finding all the cute stores to visit. Then after what would have been a successful day in just exploring by itself, we would uber to the fest!
Day two we got to see Nico Vega, Del Water Gap, Black Pumas, St. Vincent, Primal Scream, Travis, Explosions in the Sky, Melanie Martinez and Shawn Mendes.
Day three included Wisp, Beach Fossils, Leon Bridges, Iggy Pop, Porter Robinson, Beck, Jack White, Empire of the Sun and Sir Paul McCartney.
The fest not only had amazing artists but it was just a very cool festival in general. There were so many different activities and activations to participate in such as a silent disco, playing Rock Band, and a giant ferris wheel. There was always something to do.
The food at the festival was also really great! They brought in different vendors from around the city and we got to try so much from tacos, pizza, rib sandwiches, jalapeno popcorn and more. We could not have asked for a better time. The artists, the food, the city and the weather was absolutely amazing.
After an extensive and exhaustive trip seeing the city and as many artists as we could, we flew back home to Denver.
To say we were grateful and appreciative is an understatement. We had a once in a lifetime opportunity and embraced it as much as we could. Hannah from Propeller made it all possible for us and we give so much thanks to her to make this dream come true. Setting up an international trip within two weeks is wild but she did it!
I will forever continue loving Propeller with their mission but also always remember this experience and never take it for granted. Thank you so much Propeller and Hannah!
