Winner Recap: Win a Deluxe Trip to Bumbershoot Arts & Music Festival in Seattle

September 24th, 2024

Jacqueline A. from Massachusetts was the winner of the Propeller experience to "Win a Deluxe Trip to Bumbershoot Arts & Music Festival in Seattle" that took place in September 2024. Below are some of Jacqueline's highlights from the experience.

Just three days after getting engaged, we found out that we won this Propeller sweepstakes! It was such a nice surprise to celebrate our engagement.

When we arrived in Seattle after our flight from Boston, the hotel let us check in early. We walked to Pike Place Market and looked around the shops there. We discovered my new favorite art store, Robot vs Sloth, and got some souvenirs there made by a local artist. We then continued on to the Museum of Pop Culture. I really enjoyed learning about the music history in Seattle. The museum has a section where you can play instruments in a private room for 10 minutes, which was fun to try.

After getting pho for dinner, we went to Chihuly Gardens. This is such a must-see in Seattle, full of colorful glass sculptures. We watched a demonstration of how to make an octopus out of glass.

The next morning, I happened to wake up before sunrise because of the time change. I watched the sunrise over the mountains through our hotel window and then headed out early for a walk with a local birding group at the Ballard Locks. It was amazing to see 10 species of birds that I had never seen before on my first time birding on the west coast! We met up after the bird walk to look at the salmon moving through the fish ladder at the locks and the sea lions swimming up above. We walked over to Discovery Park and then headed back to the hotel to get ready for Bumbershoot.

The festival started in the early afternoon. We were on the VIP list and the VIP entrance had no line to get in! I tried Trinidadian food from one of the festival food stalls. We also snagged some free Guayaki and popsicles. After lunch, we explored the festival events and art exhibits. We watched a few runway shows, and I especially loved the show with the floral print spacesuits.

We had nepalese dumplings for dinner and then watched Aly & AJ's concert from the deluxe viewing platform, then headed back to the hotel for the night.

The next day, we spent the morning at the Washington Park Arboretum and stopped for food in Capitol Hill on our way back. We visited a bookstore and found a unique bakery called Pinoyshki that has the best food! If I ever get a chance to come back to Seattle, I'll definitely be going there again.

On day 2 of the festival, we went to a comedy show, a dance performance, a presentation of space telescope photography by a NASA scientist, a VR experience, and the Polyphonic Spree concert. My favorite moment of the festival was near the end of their show when the Polyphonic Spree covered a Nirvana song and the crowd loved it. I really appreciated that Bumbershoot felt so unique to the Seattle area and the vibrant local arts scene.

Thank you again to Propeller and Guayaki for this incredible opportunity and for continuing to support and raise awareness for so many worthy causes!
